Mariel Manuel was born in 1987 in the lakeside city of Lausanne, Switzerland. She moved to Antwerp to follow fashion at the prestigious Royal Academy of Fine Arts, where she graduated in 2010 with a collection about heroes from the deep water. Up to now, illustration and story-telling hold an important place in the process of her work. Mariel still draws and travels around the world. 
 She currently lives and works in Paris and likes to catch big fishes.
